Supports transplant units throughout the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Do not Forget the First Aid kit!A first aid kit is an essential for any home, car or place of work. It is easy to forget about having a first aid kit box because for most people it is not something that is used every day. However, on the odd occasion that it is needed, a first aid kit box will be invaluable to health and in some cases, prompt first aid action has saved lives and minimised serious injury. A first aid kit should be kept in an air tight box, clearly marked and always kept in the same place so that everybody know exactly where it is. It is no good in an emergency if time is wasted in searching for the lost first aid kit box! The contents of a first aid kit box can vary according to individual needs or legal requirements. However, the basic contents should include alcohol-free wipes, plasters, dressing bandages, gloves, tape, scissors and safety pins, eye bath and sterile eye dressing. Having a first aid kit box is important but knowing how to use it is crucial. There are a variety of first aid courses available. In the workplace, designated first aiders should attend a FAW (First aid at work ) course or EFAW (emergency first aid at work) and annually update their skills. The Red Cross and St John's ambulance brigade also run regular first aid courses both for the workplace and for private individuals. |
